Contact Us, and Read Our Privacy Policy
The Good Oil
A few issues have arisen concerning emails sent to Dr Garry, his Key Centre, and this site (referred to as ‘us’ below). Just to clarify matters, and to reduce the number of emails we receive that begin with things like…
- ‘Dear Dr Garry you sad ******* sick puppy’, or
- ‘You stupid ***** **** ******* ***…’, or
- ‘Our client demands and requires that you…’
…we thought we would set out a few points. This page also lays out our privacy policy. If you want Dr Garry to give a talk or a lecture, or attend a conference; or write a paper, an essay, or a chapter for your book, you should read this.

Privacy policy
“we have no privacy policy”
We do not have a privacy policy, as we are exempt from the Commonwealth Privacy Act of our home country of Australia. We are under no obligation to keep secret the contents of your email, your email address, your phone number, nor your grandma's underpants size.
If you send an email to us
“we love hearing from you”
We receive many fascinating emails from people who like our site and those who do not. We love hearing from you all. Some emailers recount their own experiences (good and bad), some make complaints, some praise, some tell us their life stories, many make excellent critical remarks. All provide food for thought.
We try to reply to every bona fide email as soon as possible, usually within a week of receipt. But you probably won't hear from us if your email:
- is abusive or offensive
- threatens legal action against us
- attempts to bully us into silence
- is manifestly deranged (too many to cite) or
- is illiterate
Our imposture detection warrantee
We do our best to vitiate fraud and imposture on the internet. To protect our emailers, we always to try to validate emails sent from commercial, government or academic servers. We do this by faxing or emailing the highest level of organisation we can find, to confirm that our correspondents are actually employed in the organisations they claim.
What you agree to by emailing us
By emailing us you agree to waive copyright in your email and to place it in the public domain. You also agree to do this for any attachments to your email.
Don't worry: your manuscript is safe with us. We include this rider just for those law firms who say nothing in the actual email but put their threats into a PDF attachment.
Although you agree to place your email and any attachments into the public domain, we undertake to publish neither your email, your email address, nor your attachments unless it fits into one of the above categories: Dr Garry gets to decide.
You can say what you like in your missive, but we do not accept any bleatings about not-for-publication emails. Re-read the paragraphs above. You email us, you agree to put it in the public domain.
If you don't like our policy, don't email. Send us a nice letter instead.
If you receive an email purportedly from us
Because emails and attachments may be interfered with, may contain computer viruses or other defects and may not be successfully replicated on other systems, you must be cautious. We cannot guarantee that what you receive is what we sent, if indeed we sent anything at all: email addresses are readily spoofed. If you have any doubts about the authenticity of an email from us, please contact someone who cares immediately.
Any email we may send you and any attachments may be confidential. If you receive these in error, please delete them, give yourself a brain-wipe, and then smash your computer to little pieces just to make sure.
It is also important to check for viruses and defects before opening or using attachments. We make no guarantee that our emails are free from viruses or defects. You open them at your own risk. Our liability is limited to telling your great-aunt that you have passed away.
